Nesto came out of a stylised character commission; his character was based on original 2D character sketches drawn by Robert Taylor (AKA. Bob Taylor). At the time Robert Taylor was working on material needed for a pilot animation episode called Freeway (for NickToons) back in 1998. Two other characters, Big Bunny and Bad Kitty were also part of the Freeway production material.
